fact findings of details Mr Mohd Khusairi Ramli from Time Reach Sdn Bhd on 17/6/05 ( Friday , 10.00am – 12.00pm ) as follow :-

a) Time Reach Sdn Bhd having the dedicated leased line at 64kb ( Main Contractor of ISP from HeitechPadu for 2 year contract since September 2004) for whole 36 branches nationwide (eg. but some remote site still using dial-up line )

b) User complaint accessing the DataMart program ( HQ ) from branches take 10 – 15 minutes especially in Southern region ( JB and Shah Alam ) and some place take 2-5 minute to load the DataMart Program (eg. Kuantan and Batu Pahat )

c) The IT Manager from Time Reach is only involved in monitoring and coordination work and all decision of hardware or software purchase will go to the ITGROUP ( 4 Division – FM, AD, AS , SM at about 80 IT staffs ) from Timedotcom at Wisma TIME.

d) The DataMart Server is using latest HP Proliant 530 model with 2 processor and 2GB memory at Windows 2003 Standard Server (eg. sufficient and good for the business application )

e) Each branch will have about 4-5 PCs accessing the business application , internet , email and normal operation work to Server at HQ using existing 64Kbps leased line .( eg, Workstation or Client PC is at minimum 256MB or 512MB memory and running on Windows XP Pro or Windows 2000 Pro Operating System )

f) All the existing network equipment are using Nortel , 3COM and Cisco Product .

g) The ITGroup from Timedotcom currently is evaluating few vendor proposal / POC like TMnet streamyx / Jaring / TDC to work with HeitechPadu ( ISP Vendor ) for alternative solutions , Bandwidth Booster appliances from Parabit ( Vendor ) for POC process , and some are recommending replace the old Cisco Equipment.

h) The main constraint and problem is they are just sign the two year contract with Heitechpadu for the dedicated leased line and backup ISDN line and paying around RM 36K per year per branch ( estimation cost )

Action to be taken :-

Short term solution :-

A ) Using terminal Services accessing to Datamart Server ( Windows 2003 Terminal Server ) but utilizing bandwidth at about 20.8Kbps per connection from WAN ( One of the cost saving method but the main problem still occurred with 64kbps leased line over WAN .)

B) Using Citrix MetaFrame accesing to DataMart Server and bandwidth usage at 9.6kbps per connection from WAN ( One of the recommended solutions and Worldwide HP is using this solutions but expensive license fee at USD 400 per user license. )

C ) Proposing TMnet streamyx on the best effort service solution( Broadband VPN line at either 1MB or 2MB – Price will go down in this few months ) for additional business line and hopefully can re-use back their existing networking devices (eg. Just put additional module for additional broadband line – Estimation )

- HQ ( RM 418 X 12 = RM 5016 ) per year for Internet line investment

- Branch ( RM 99 X 12 X 35 = RM 41580 ) per year for the whole branches Internet connectivity purpose.

- Services configuration and consultancy fee

Long Term solution:-

A) Proposing Tmnet streamyx Corporate or Enterprise package for all branches and proposed Load-Balancer for leased line and broadband line ( double the speed of Internet line )

B) Proposed the hardware product ( Steelhead Appliance ) from Riverbed Technology Inc where Enterprise can experience LAN-like application performance even on their wide area networks ( WAN ) without upgrading their WAN links.

But the cost the each appliances at RM 30K per unit excluding installation fee.

The Main Problem :-

We highly believed the problem at the WAN link which only running at 64kbps dedicated leased line and budget

Past experience and project reference :-

a) Kuok Brother Sdn Bhd having 64kbps ISDN line connecting their Mail Server at Hong Kong and the line was very slow and many complaints.

Solutions :- After implementing 2MB broadband line replacing 64kbps ISDN line , no more complaint and no hardware or software upgrade required.

b) Corbis LLC ( Microsoft Subsidiary ) having broadband line with 2 ISP but time unstable and very slow

Solutions:- After implementing TMnet 1.5MB SDSL broadband line replacing existing two ISP which connect their VPN connection to US and Hong Kong for Exhange Server or WEB Portal . No more complaint after that .

c) Terminal services or Citrix MetaFrame or VNC are widely used in Singapore MNC companies or Government Agency (eg. It is highly recommended by our Network Expert – Eric with many year experience on Enterprise Solutions in Singapore and Malaysia ) .

Job to be done

~4 units of the old pc , you just need to export the outlook email to the server back up folder , and once exporting complete , you can remove the old pc and install the new PC at the same place , reimport back the mail from the server back up folder that you have done just now to the new pc , then configure the network for them . ( The IT Guy - Mr. Patrick will be there to provide you the new user ID and the netwok is under dynamic IP )

~1 more unit of the PC will go into the finance guy's room , existing in the room has 2 pcs , when you reached there , you just remove one of the PC from his table , then setup the new pc . You can import the email directly from another pc which is still remain on the table , then just setup the network .
